Header, footer and site blocks

Blocks that belong to the whole Tessolo site rather than one page: top navigation, footer, announcement bar and language switcher.

Four blocks that appear on every page rather than one.

Top navigation

Brand name, page links and a button. Collapses into a menu on phones — you don't build that separately.

It lives on its own page in the Pages list, and appears at the top of every page once published. See header, footer and the 404 page.

Keep it to five or six links. A navigation with twelve is a list nobody reads, and on a phone it's a wall.

Give the button the one action you most want people to take — "Get started", "Book a demo" — not a link to your blog.

Brand blurb, a few link groups and copyright.

Where the useful-but-secondary things go: contact details, legal pages, social links, everything that would clutter the top navigation.

Two things people forget: a way to contact you, and your legal pages. Both are the first place visitors look.

Announcement bar

A dismissible banner at the very top of the page. Sits above the navigation.

For one thing at a time, with an end date in mind: a sale, an event, a service notice. It's dismissible so returning visitors aren't nagged.

Take it down when it's over. A banner announcing last month's webinar makes the whole site look unattended.

Language switcher

Lets visitors change language. Only relevant once your site has more than one.

The first time you add a language, one of these is added to your top navigation automatically — without it, visitors have no way to reach the other version.

Settings: Inline (side by side) or Dropdown, which saves space with several languages; labels as the language name or a short code.

Full language names are friendlier. Codes are fine when you have five or more.

See adding a language.

Editing them

Click the header or footer in the Pages list, or click their greyed-out preview above and below the canvas while editing any page.

A change appears everywhere, which is the point — and means republishing after editing the header republishes the whole site.
