Writing better prompts

Prompt patterns that get useful pages and blocks out of Tessolo's AI, prompts that waste your monthly allowance, and cheap habits that help.

The difference between a useful result and a wasted run is usually the description, not the AI.

Be concrete about structure

Name the sections and how many of each.

Some FAQsAn FAQ block with five questions about shipping and returns
Make it look modernDark background, large headings, plenty of space between sections

"Three feature cards" produces three. "Some features" produces a guess, and the guess is usually four.

Give it your real words

Anything specific you paste — a product name, a tagline, three benefits — comes back in the result. Anything you don't, it invents.

Inventing is where the danger is: it produces confident, plausible copy about a product it knows nothing about. Ten words of your real positioning is worth more than any amount of describing the tone.

One change at a time when editing

Three instructions at once tend to produce one done well and two half done.

Instead of:

Shorten the headline, change the buttons to say what happens next, and make the whole thing darker

Run three edits. Each is quick, each is easy to judge, and you can stop when it's right.

Say what it's for

"A landing page for a Google Ads campaign selling one product to small business owners" gives the AI something to make decisions with. It affects headline length, how many calls to action, how much explanation.

Prompts that won't work

  • "Use our brand colours." It can't see your theme. Set the theme first — generated blocks use it automatically.
  • "Add our real prices." It doesn't know them. Generate the structure, type the prices.
  • "Make it like stripe.com." It hasn't seen the page. Describe what you like about it — "generous white space, one accent colour, short sentences" — or use From URL.
  • "Fix the spacing." Too vague. Use the Layout settings; they're faster and exact.

Cheap habits that save your allowance

  • Use Generate block, not Generate page, for anything less than a full rebuild.
  • Select a section before an edit, so only that section is sent.
  • Discard rather than patch. A near-miss you then "fix" through three more prompts costs more than rewriting the description once.

What to expect

A good result is a usable structure with placeholder-quality copy. That's the win: the hard part was arranging fifteen blocks into a page that reads well.

Plan to rewrite the words. Every time.
