Transfer a site

Hand a finished Tessolo site to a client's own account: how to send and accept a transfer, what moves with the site and what stays behind.

You built a site for a client and now it should be theirs — their account, their subscription, their problem when the domain expires. That's a transfer.

It moves one site to another account. The recipient doesn't have to be in your workspace, and doesn't even need an account yet.

Sending it

Site settings → Transfer site → the recipient's email address.

They get an email with a link. Nothing happens to the site until they accept, and the link is good for seven days. Until then you can cancel it or send the email again from the same page — and one site can only have one invite out at a time, so there's never a race between two links.

Once they accept, the site is gone from your account. You can't undo it from your side — you'd have to ask them to transfer it back.

What goes with it

Everything that belongs to the site:

  • Every page, plus its version history
  • Content collections and their entries
  • Form responses, orders and site members
  • Connected domains — the site keeps working at the same address throughout
  • Media uploaded in this site
  • Integrations configured on this site

Worth a look before you send: the recipient will see where each integration sends things. If one of them is still pushing form responses to your own Slack, clear it out first.

What doesn't

Three things stay with you, and the transfer page lists them for your specific site:

Media shared with your other sites. If a logo was uploaded in a different site and reused here, it stays in your library. The pages still show it — the recipient just won't find it in their media library to change it.

Checkout. Your Stripe account belongs to your workspace, not to the site, so it can't follow — nobody wants payments quietly landing in the wrong account. Checkout is switched off as part of the transfer. The new owner connects their own Stripe and turns it back on.

Your saved themes and page templates. Those are workspace-level. The site keeps the theme it's actually using; it just doesn't take a copy of your library with it.

Receiving one

Open the link and sign in with the address the invite was sent to — that's the one that counts, so if you're signed in as someone else you'll be asked to switch.

If you don't have an account, sign up from that page and the site is waiting on the other side. If you've never used Tessolo before there's nothing else to set up. Only if you already have several workspaces will you be asked which one it should go into.

A few things to know when it lands:

  • Your plan's site limit applies. If you're at the limit, upgrade first, then accept.
  • If you already have a site with the same name, this one gets a number after it.
  • Checkout is off. Connect Stripe under site settings and switch it back on.

Handing over the whole account

If it's not one site but everything — you're leaving, someone else takes over the workspace and its subscription — that's transferring workspace ownership instead. Add them as a member first, then hand the workspace over.
