Let visitors attach a file

CVs, photos of the fault, a design brief — collected with the rest of the form.

Add an Upload a file field and visitors can attach something to their submission: a CV on a careers page, a photo of what's broken on a repair request, a brief on an enquiry form.

The file is not public. It's downloadable only from your submissions table, and only by people who are signed in to your workspace.

Add the field

Drop it into the form

In the editor, open Add → Forms & surveys and drag Upload a file into your form — same as any other field.

Pick what it accepts

Anything, Images (jpg, png, gif, webp, heic) or Documents (pdf, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, txt, csv, zip). Picking one narrows the visitor's file picker too, so they don't choose something that gets rejected.

Form field settings in the editor inspector
The field settings sit in the inspector, next to the other form fields.

Say what you want, in the hint

The Hint line shows under the button. "PDF or Word, under 20 MB" saves you a round of emails asking someone to re-send.

Reading what came in

Uploads show up as a link in Forms → Submissions, with the file name and size. Click to download. Exports include the file name in the CSV.

The notification email lists the name and size but not a download link — whoever receives it might not be signed in. Use the View submissions button in that email.

Things worth knowing

  • Files upload as soon as they're picked, not when the form is submitted. A visitor attaching three large files doesn't sit watching a spinner after hitting Submit.
  • Anything picked but never submitted is deleted within 24 hours. It never appears in your submissions and doesn't keep using storage.
  • Deleting a submission deletes its files, in the same click.
  • SVG and web files are refused, deliberately. They can carry scripts, and nothing on this path ever opens them to check.
  • Every file downloads as an attachment, never rendered in the browser.
