Troubleshooting

Fixes for the Tessolo problems people actually hit: changes missing from the live site, empty lists, untranslated pages, lost form entries.

Organised by what you can see. Each one starts with the most likely cause.

My change isn't on the live site

You probably haven't published. Editing changes a draft; the live site keeps showing the last published version. "Saved" in the top bar means stored, not live.

Press Publish. See publishing.

If you have published:

  • Was it a site setting? Analytics IDs, custom code, languages and the primary domain are frozen into the published snapshot. Republish.
  • Was it a collection entry? Entries publish separately — see below.
  • Give it a minute. Caches take up to a minute to catch up.
  • Try a private window. Your browser may be showing you its own copy.

A list on my page is empty

Work down in order:

  1. Are the entries published? The editor shows drafts; the live site doesn't. Look at the Status column.
  2. Do the filters match anything? Remove them one at a time.
  3. Is Max entries set to something small? Easy to leave at 3 from an earlier layout.
  4. Is the right collection selected?

The translated page still shows the original language

The entries aren't published. Republishing the site publishes pages; collection entries publish individually.

Open the collection, look at the Translations and Status columns, and publish the entries. See publishing translations.

If the page text is untranslated too, check the progress in Settings → Languages — some pages may simply not be done.

My form never arrives

  1. Is the site published? Only the live site records submissions.
  2. Does the form have a submit button whose action is Submit form? The pre-publish check flags this.
  3. Did you test on the live page, not the editor preview?
  4. Is a notification email set in Settings → Form notifications? Submissions can be recorded while nobody is told.
  5. Check spam, and add the sending address to your contacts.
  6. Are you over the monthly quota?
  7. Have you closed it? A closing time or a response cap in submission rules stops new answers; visitors see your closing message rather than an error.
  8. Are the questions inside the form block? A question sitting next to the form collects nothing. The pre-publish check flags this one too.

Submissions are recorded even if notification fails — check Form submissions before assuming they're lost.

The domain won't verify

Nearly always a DNS record that doesn't match, or an old one in the way. See connecting a custom domain — it has the full checklist.

Quick version: check the record exists with a DNS checker, look for a leftover record with the same name, and press Check again.

The editor looks different on my phone

On a phone — and on an iPad held upright — opening a page gives you the content view instead of the full editor: the text and pictures on that page, in the order they appear, each one a tap away from being edited. Cards with a thumbnail open the media library, so you can swap a photo — or shoot one and upload it — without a computer. Changes save by themselves, exactly as they do on a desktop.

Three side-by-side panels and drag-and-drop don't fit on a small screen, so layout and adding blocks still need a computer. Widen the window past the point where the panels fit and you go straight back to the full editor.

Two things the content view doesn't do on purpose:

  • Publishing. The buttons at the bottom take you to the site page, which has the publish button and the pre-publish check.
  • Editing a component. Components open the "needs a computer" screen. Edit the page that uses the component instead, or open the component on a computer.

An image looks wrong on phones

  • Cropped badly? Give phones their own picture — see a different image per device.
  • Suddenly full width? You dragged it to an exact pixel width, which falls back to full width on narrow screens on purpose. Set a width on the phone view, or drag to a snapped stop instead.
  • Blurry? The original may be too small. Upload a bigger one — sizing down is automatic, sizing up isn't possible.

I changed the display mapping and nothing happened

Display mapping applies to blocks you add from then on; existing lists aren't rearranged.

Either fix that list by hand — click the text on the card and change its Field — or delete the block and add a fresh one. See display mapping.

I can't publish

Publishing needs an admin. Editors can change everything but not publish. Ask an admin, or ask to be made one. See members and roles.

Analytics shows nothing

  1. Did you republish after enabling it or pasting an ID? Most common cause.
  2. Is the site password protected? Visits aren't counted.
  3. Has it been a few minutes? Numbers are aggregated by day with a short delay.
  4. Ad blocker? Test in a window without one.

"Changed elsewhere"

The same page was saved somewhere else — a colleague, or another tab of your own.

Reload takes theirs, Overwrite with mine keeps yours. There's no merge. See autosave, undo and conflicts.

I deleted something I need

  • Just now, in the editor? ⌘Z.
  • Earlier? Version history — every publish is a restore point, and your current draft is backed up before restoring.
  • A whole page? Its version history went with it. That one can't be undone.
